Ways to Give

The Decatur County Community Foundation will work with you to create the legal instruments to make sure your wishes are followed forever. A donor to the Decatur County Community Foundation can give any amount to an existing fund or create a new named fund for $10,000. Gifts can be given in the following forms:

Cash.
Always quick and simple, the cash gift entitles you to a tax deduction of up to 50% of your adjusted gross income with an opportunity to carry over any excess for five years.

Stocks and bonds.
Appreciated securities are a simple way to make large gifts. The IRS allows a charitable tax deduction on the fair market value and you do not have to pay capital gains on the appreciated portion.

Bequests.
The perfect way to plan for the future, this gift is exempt from estate taxes.

Charitable Remainder Trust.
This provides a stream of income. After a number of years, the remaining balance goes to the charity. There are many tax advantages that accompany this type of gift.

Charitable Lead Trust.
This is similar to the remainder trust, but payments go to the charity first.
