Bonnie Springmeyer Family Fund / Bonnie Springmeyer Nursing Scholarship
Bonnie Springmeyer, a city girl from Greensburg, as her husband Vincent Springmeyer explained to me, really adapted well to farm life and enjoyed herself after the two married. Vincent commented,
“She was definitely the prettiest truck driver, driving corn into town that you ever could see”.
In 2000, Bonnie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and she fought it hard with the help of many fine nurses and hospice. After Bonnie’s death both a fund and a scholarship were set-up to memorialize Bonnie and those who helped her during her hard fought fight with ovarian cancer.
The Bonnie Springmeyer Family Fund was created to provide support for the Decatur County Community Foundation to carry out its role and mission, and it also helps support local hospice. Vincent commented that this fund was great because the family could just give to it for any occasion, like the adult birthdays in the family. Along with the fund, the Bonnie Springmeyer Nursing Scholarship was also created. This scholarship is for a Greensburg High School graduate pursuing a post secondary education in nursing. When asked if he had anything else to say about Bonnie, Vincent replied, “Only good things were ever said about Bonnie, she was a great mom, a great wife, and a great grandmother. She was an all around incredible girl that gave me forty-two and a half years of heaven”.
