"I am currently a first-year student at Butler University and part of the largest class in Butler's history. I am studying biology and biomedical engineering. So far, I've done a lot of cool things at Butler, and I love it there. One of the first things I did was volunteer at Butler's major volunteering event called Bulldogs Into the Streets (BITS). For BITS, I got to go the Midwest Food Bank in Indianapolis and help package food that will be sent to food pantries all over Indiana. I am also a member of the American Sign Language club at Butler. This club works to teach people sign language and about the deaf community. With the ASL club, I signed the National Anthem at a Butler men's basketball game which was super fun. Another club I am a part of is the Food Recovery Network. This club teams us with our dining hall to collect food that would otherwise be thrown away. We take this food and donate it to the Julian Center in Indianapolis, which is a shelter for people who are fleeing from domestic violence. Lastly, I am currently finishing up a semester-long project for my introductory engineering class. For this project we were assigned to work in groups and design a quadcopter, which is like a drone, using a design program on the computer called Creo. We then took our designs and printed them off using a 3D printer. We are currently working on the electrical components for the copter. Once everything is assembled, we will go to Hinkle Fieldhouse and fly them around." #ScholarUpdates #DCCFound

Generous support from the Community Foundation has been used to support our BackSacks: Weekend Food for Kids program, which provides bags of nutritious food to 120 students in Decatur County each week during the school year! The site coordinator at South Decatur Elementary reported: "We have many families in need at our school that cannot afford to feed their children and with this program for weekend food it has helped take some financial burden off their children getting nutritious foods while away from school. Students are better focused when they are not hungry." Thank you for granting our wish of fewer children going hungry over the weekend! #WishesGranted #DCCFound

I have finally got settled in to Purdue University and currently working my way to earn a Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Development. College has been a fun experience so far, and I have learned something new every single day I have been at college. I really enjoy expanding my knowledge everyday because you can never know too much. Meeting new people from all over the world and also finding people that grew up close to my hometown is my favorite hobby. I am in a learning community at school, and once a week, we are granted the opportunity to do something special at Purdue that is exclusive to just our learning community. For example, we got to go onto the football field, basketball field, and inside of the press box at our football stadium. I have also joined a public communications group that gives the opportunity to gain experience with communicating and networking with companies, as well. Purdue has given me so many opportunities thus far, and I cannot wait to experience more great opportunities in the future. #ScholarUpdates #DCCFound
