Jim & Linda Volk Family Fund / James A. Volk Engineering Scholarship
Both Jim, born December 7, 1946, and Linda Volk, born September 15, 1947, were born and raised in Decatur County and both graduated from Greensburg Community High School. Jim graduated from Purdue University in 1969, worked shortly, and was soon after drafted into the army. Linda graduated from Ball State in 1969 and finished her schooling with a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1972. She taught in Michigan for the Wayne Westland Community Schools for eight years before she returned back to Decatur County to work with the family farm. Just as well Jim returned back to Decatur County to work with Volk Electric Service.
Jim passed away on April 21, 1997 and after things had settled down after his death, Linda started both the Jim and Linda Volk Family fund when she sat as a board member for the Foundation and the James A. Volk Engineering Scholarship. The Jim and Linda Volk Family Fund was established to simply help upstart the foundations unrestricted fund and its sole purpose is to support the Foundation and its mission.
The James A. Volk Engineering Scholarship was established in memoriam of Jim Volk and its sole purpose is to provide a scholarship to a graduating Decatur County student pursuing a degree in Engineering at a college level institution.
When asked why giving was important to her, Linda stated, “We (Linda and Jim) both believed that education is important, not only in a school setting, but learning throughout life. We have been very blessed and this is how I will give back.” Linda also said that if she had unlimited resources, she would have all of Decatur County wired for broadband internet and she would also like to see the County Schools and Greensburg Schools consolidate into one school system.
