William H. Greiwe Scholarship

William H. Greiwe was born in September of 1937.  He was one of six brothers and sisters who were raised on their parent’s farm southeast of Greensburg.  All six of them have stayed, lived, and for some, passed away in the general area of Decatur County and closely surrounding areas.

As for William, he worked for Stewart Seeds for many years before he ventured off on his own to create Greiwe Seed and he ran his company up until his death.  Greiwe was very involved with the optimist club and politics within the county. He was married twice, but had his two children with his second wife, Betty. Both of his children currently live in Columbus and have had children of their own.

After Bill’s death, his second wife Betty created the William H. Greiwe Scholarship in his memory. The scholarship is distributed by the Optimist Club, of whom William devoted so much of his time to. They decide and give the scholarship to a graduating Decatur County student every year.  The family has continued to consistently contribute to the fund over the years.
